"Anthropocene Ruptures: Crossing Borders, Building Connections" hosted by Charles University in Prague was the first event in a series of networking activities, supported by the CENTRAL Network. The workshops bring together researchers and students from Charles University, Humboldt University and the University of Vienna.
The workshop opened with a welcome and introductory remarks by Cyril Říha, Director of the Center for Theoretical Study, and continued with a roundtable and discussions on the Anthropocene debate. VAN co-founder Michael Wagreich presented the activities of the Vienna Anthropocene Network along with related Anthropocene Education initiatives at the University of Vienna.

The 2-day workshop programme also included a field trip to explore the urban Anthropocene landscape of Slatinský Brook (which can be seen in the picture on the left). The excursion titled "Human Currents, Natural Flows: Walking the Anthropocene at Slatinský Brook" was led by Karolína Pauknerová (CTS CU and CAS) and combined on-site explorations of the area with insights in its recent historical developments.
The next Anthropocene research networking event will take place at Humboldt University in Berlin in May/June 2026. We very much look forward to the upcoming workshops that will further map out how Central European voices can contribute to global Anthropocene conversations. [W]hat if we consider the Anthropocene in a broad sense, as it takes root in various areas, from the environmental movement through the humanities to its creative use and transformation in the sphere of art, or even critical design?
